Well Diversified Teams

Recruitment and selection is very critical to an organization success. Recruiting talented employees from various backgrounds, cultures, age, and personalities can have numerous benefits. This is the reason why diversity is extremely important. Dynamic teams can perform much better when challenged with a problem. According to Alec, he stated diversity allows for free flow brainstorming which is acceptable: “By being more inclusive and supporting workplace diversity, you can create an environment where innovation and a different way of thinking are brought to the table by employees with culturally diverse backgrounds” (Grey, 2013). I equally work in a high performing team environment. When everyone offers different skill sets, then it makes accomplishing the task more creative.  For example, there was a meeting for procedural reviews. Employees with various skill sets from analytics, computer science, and marketing made accomplishing the task fun! A marketing professional had a perspective of innovation which was implementing procedures artistically. The computer science and the analytics professional shared some similarities in knowledge. However, each presented new categorization of data through programming.

Diversity enhances growth to an individual’s personal life. For instance, I have conducted team meetings and there is always some sense of connection between members. Connection in this context refers to individuals discovering similarities through networking.  I have observed members and numerous times are spent acknowledging, actively listening, and grouping similarities and differences in cultural sets. Katie Reynolds stated: “Bonding over similarities and differences can help you to become a global citizen, abandoning prejudices or an ethnocentric world view—something that is increasingly valuable” (Reynolds, 2016). I agree with Katie because often people are comparing their own culture values to others. In today’s diversified work group, I believe taking the time to learn Why? explains employee behavior, communication, and perceptions towards the team. We live in Canada where it is a country that includes all cultures! There are endless ways to learn intercultural efficiencies through team meetings, team social events, and awareness training.

Businesses are continually finding new ways to adapt to a world-wide audience. To do this effectively they recruit talented professionals internationally and locally to create products. The impact is the result of understanding consumer behavior. Oliver is the CHRO of Schneider-Electric and he stated the company once led by French leaders in now operating headquarters globally. I like this approach as it is evident the company grew by 6.2% in the first quarter (Bersin, 2018). The image below articulates the concept of Schneider when it was French led. As you can see the company lacked innovation and growth due to similar thinking processes.
