Work and Play Time

Does your workplace incorporate play time?
There are numerous studies which show happier
employees can easily connect with the organization members. Often challenges
help to clarify processes, understandings, and a wealth of knowledge.
I have incorporated many timed challenges and creative
tasks to add excitement to meetings. The result was increased learning and
development! Employees were smiling and appreciated the tasks involved. With
times challenges I added procedural based Q and As. Because they are timed, it
was easier to add True and False provided the situation. There was awesome
comradery built when sub teams were made within the team. The overall group
dynamic and the challenges helped with collaboration. Even the less social were
able to effectively voice their opinions and share their ideas.
I agree with Ed in the published article called: 5 Games for Building Office Camaraderie. He
stated games help to understand shared experiences (Graziano, 2013). I have been in a game play setting which uses puzzles.
These are very fun and exciting. As much as it may appear to be very confusing,
puzzles stimulate creativity. To connect the pieces, require different
knowledge and expertise. To be able to understand different viewpoints,
gameplay facilitates greater depth in the topic.
Who agrees work play time is essential?
According to Michelle the article
called: The Power of Play at Work stated
Google uses play time to improve employee exhaustion by implementing mental and
physical activities like mediation (Burke, 2017). The workplace can at times be
a busy day with many distractions taking place. Really taking the time to
unwind and relax for a moment makes the workday much more productive.
We are all human at the end of the day!
Making work seem fun makes more room for
productivity! Peter stated the following to demonstrate how the energies and
efforts of playful mindset can produce innovation: “In contrast, when we allow
ourselves to become absorbed in the process as play we sometimes achieve far
more” (Gray, 2013). This is absolutely vital for teams to succeed! By just
changing the mindset from traditional workday to the playful moment equals
numerous team benefits.
